Three time 1500m Champion Asbel Kiprop led athletes under the management of Rosa Associati to express their joy after their manager Federico Rosa was acquitted of doping charges on Tuesday by the Milimani Court.
Federico who was charged in July but was out on bail was on Tuesday acquitted after the Director of Public Prosecution, Keriako Tobiko directed that the case be withdrawn under Section 87A of the criminal procedure code.
According to Kiprop, the allegations affected the managements’ athletes.
As athletes under this management we all knew that our manager was clean and he never allows or gives drugs to his athletes but train them to win clean.
“The period that our manager was arrested was the most tormenting period we went through as his athletes, it was so malicious because this man we have been with him for long and he has never administered as drug to his athletes, he is a man who believes in clean sport,” Kiprop said.
Afred Kirwa the former world 800m champion also said the truth has finally come out. Kirwa who won gold at the 2007 world championships in Osaka and went ahead to claim a bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics said the claims were orchestrated in trying to taint the managements’ image.
“Athletes from the management have earned Kenya many medals on world and Olympic games. We knew that they were allegations but we are very happy that he has been acquitted,” Kirwa said.
