Athletes competing at this year’s Kass International marathon set for this Sunday are assured that cheating will not take place after the introduction of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) devices.
Race organizers led by Kass Chief Executive Officer Julius Lamaon, said cheating in Kass marathon has never happened and it will never happen especially after rogue athletes spoiled the party at this year’s Standard Chartered Nairobi marathon and Family Bank half marathon in Eldoret.
The 42km will start in Kapsabet, the headquarter of Nandi County and ends at Eldoret Sports Club, Uasin Gishu County while 12km will begin at Eldoret International Airport to Eldoret Sports Club.
He says there will no room for cheating among athletes and assured that all will be well ahead of the Sunday’s 10th edition of Kass International marathon in Eldoret.
Lamaon said the RFID devices have been installed in all running bibs and will detect an athlete after every 5km.
“These are devices used internationally and we are applying the same method to Kass marathon to achieve international standards. This microchip technology will ensure that after every 5km, an athlete is marked hence making it easy to rate each athletes performance and distance covered from the start to the end,” said Lamaon.
