World 1500m silver medallist Elijah Manang’oi is hopeful his top form this season will translate into a podium finish as he makes his Olympic Games debut in Rio Olympics.
“It has been a good season so far. My shape has been great and my focus will be to finish on the podium in Rio,” said Manang’oi, who has a personal best time of 3:29.67.
Am training as hard as you can see under my coach and at the moment the body is in great shape and ready for Rio.
Manang’oi who held his training this morning at Kasarani stadium under his coach Bernard Ouma of Rongai Athletics Club where Manang’oi falls says, my coach knows me so well and I train under him with strictness and a lot of caution, he knows better what to do when he trains.
After his dismal showing in Glasgow, he rose to win silver at the Beijing world champions, something he attributes to hard work. I think I have a lot of focus and concentration in running in addition to my body reacting well,” he observed.
On the Diamond League circuit, Manang’oi has been playing second fiddle to world 1500m champion Asbel kiprop, whom he has been taunted as the perfect heir to. But this has been Manang’oi’s joy.
“We work together as a team when competing, he’s a really a good man, a friend and a brother also,” he said of Kiprop. “He’s not selfish and that’s why he has always performed well. He always gives me encouragement.”
“One thing am sure of is that Manag’oi is so ready for the Rio and all I can say is wait and see,” the coach concluded.
