World 3,000m steeplechase silver medallist Conseslus Kipruto is among the mentors invited for the inaugural Blaze youth summit set for today at the Eldoret Sports Club.
Fresh from the IAAF Diamond League tour, which took him to Doha, Rabat and Rome, Kipruto will mentor the youth on success in sports with special focus on athletics during the one-day summit dubbed ‘Be Your Own Boss’.
“I am so grateful for this opportunity to talk to my fellow youth about athletics as a career and a profession. The experience I have gained is so immerse since I decided to pursue my dream of being a professional athlete,” Kipruto said.
“As a young boy, I would look at the greats such as Paul Tergat and Moses Tanui and admire them. I saw the zeal and passion they had for the sport but I didn’t know about the earning power of the sport; I just wanted to run.
Now an opportunity has come for to encourage young people to pursue their dreams and to find ways to earn a living from these dreams,” he added.
Kipruto will speak on the topic “Winning is in the Mind,” in an interactive session targeting young men and women who are passionate about sports and would like to pursue careers in the field.
“Through Blaze, we aim to give Kenyan youth a chance to chart their own paths to success by learning from other young, successful entrepreneurs, athletes, artists and innovators” said Sylvia Mulinge, Director of Consumer Business at Safaricom.
“Conseslus is a symbol of hope for other young Kenyans who would like to become professional athletes, having found success on the track and gone on to not only represent Kenya but also bring home several medals from different races all over the world,” she added.
